Waiter Rant is a blog written by Stephen Dublanica about his life as a waiter. His blog entries are rants about his happenings while he’s at work. The blog is set out like a series of stories. Some entries, particularly the early ones, are about his likes and dislikes of being a restaurant waiter. Stephen manages to write in a way that gives you insight into a waiter’s life and uses humor to show how ridiculous or appropriate the points he is making really are.
Stephen conveys a broad range of emotions in his posts which make the reading more interesting but also more meaningful. Stephen’s posts talk about his experiences with guests, in the kitchen and also away from work. While the blog is predominantly a waiter rant he also posts about his life in general. This technique is a good way Stephen avoids over repetition and adds variety to the reading experience.
I like the way Stephen’s blog manages to be funny but meaningful at the same time. His first post is called The Rules (to be amended at will!) and details what he thinks are guidelines for a dining experience. The post is funny but also makes the reader feel bad about how they treat waiters and I personally want to follow his “guidelines” after reading the post.
